Economic Development by Webpage
Let's see. We are listed in the New Mexico Economic Development site.
Yup. There it is. So if you manage to do a search for New Mexico Economic Development and then search there for Bosque Farms or follow the link through Community Assistance to Certified Communities you can then find a link to the Bosque Farms Economic Development Site.
Oh yeah. That helps. Check it out here for yourself.
And while it might help. It seems that Bosque Farms could be doing something more proactive than just these links that are buried in the middle of pages or after following several links.
This author finds it interesting that our webpages link to one place that doesn't link back to us. One example of this would be the Los Lunas Small Business Center.
Again, not a big deal one way or the other. However, it seems that someone would look at these links, look where they are going, ensure we too are listed on their links so that everyone is getting the maximum exposure.
Mostly, this author believes just putting up a webpage and providing a few links to it from other sources (uh, such as our own Village website hint hint) is probably a good start but maybe more can be done?

Does our economic development plan preclude advertising? As in the NY Times and other large papers? How 'bout trying to make nice with our northern neighbors at Isleta and develop a tourist based economy? We have Civil War sites...we need curio shops....busses from the casino....gunfights in the street and T-shirt shops. Isleta is a destination resort and people are closer to home these days...quit giving out more than a thousand speeding tickets a month and try to welcome some folks. We don't stand a chance as an industrial center or even a high tech haven. Candles, rubber hatchets and "Where the hell is Bosque Farms?" bumper stickers would be more appropriate. Saturday night dances could make our community fun again. AND ADVERTISE THE FAIR......HELLO.....HELLO!!!!
Readers,
In BosqueGal's last post where she said there wasn't a web page regarding economic development listed on the Village's web site, I pointed out her incompetence because there obviously is one. I also pointed out that you wouldn't see her posting an apology for posting bad information (or a lie, if you want to look at it that way). As you can see, no admission that she made a mistake. Way too big of an ego to do that, don't you think! Someone with a little humility would admit to a simple mistake, but not the arrogant BosqueGal!
Readers beware!
Readers,
I love how BosqueGal and the Flash can offer up all this criticism and make recommendations that they themselves won't help out with. My question is, do they buy local? Do they support the businesses that do give it a shot in Bosque Farms? For instance, has either one of them been to the Southwest Medical facility that recently opened up in town? Are they eating at our local restaurants? Do they buy gasoline here, or do they go to Isleta to save a couple of cents, which means that no gross receipts taxes or DOT taxes are given back to the state or the Village? So if they don't support the local businesses, they are hypocrites when they criticize the Village's attempts to stimulate economic development!

Guess I'm gonna have to give up now. I truly thought my comment was positive and the result of years, nay, decades of business and marketing experience. I do shop locally, when possible and have tried twice in the past to open small businesses in Bosque Farms. The restrictive requirements and costs forced me to Albuquerque. I've lived in Bosque Farms since 1980, although my parents bought land here in the late 60's. My family helped at the fair for more than ten years and 3 generations of us have participated. We won family of the year once, due to the number of ribbons we received. We gave it up when the fair became the personal property of a couple of local housewives with no vision.I am on a first name basis with SW Grill, Benny's and Sopa's,again, since they won't let Baldwin bring his pig in anymore. I buy my gas at the 66 station and we spent almost 200.00 with the new medical facility when my eldest daughter contracted an infection. My personal doc is in Belen...since 1982. I use a mechanic who lives on Hwy. 47 and have local kids for help in the yard. We buy produce from the old Pronto Mart and dogfood from Terry Fox. My wife has worked in Belen for almost 20 years. We are and will remain solid supporters of Bosque Farms and Valencia county. Let's be careful with the name calling....I'm not a hypocrite. I'll bet Coul goes to Walmart.....do you think that money stays in NM? One can only stand so much beating your head against the wall. It's time to step up...just exactly what is it you contribute that makes you feel so smug? Let's try to solve our problems and be a hair less accusatory, particularly when you're guessing.
Have a safe and fire free 4th of July...wave Ol' Glory, drink a beer, eat too many hot dogs and don't shoot off anything you can't handle.
READERS BE AWARE!
Readers,
I asked whether the Flash and BosqueGal bought local. I didn't assume they don't and make an unfounded accusation. I would like to commend the Flash for all he says he does for the Village. I wish more people in the Village did as he does to support the local economy. He accuses me of being smug, while most of the time he is criticizing the Village in his commentary on the blog. Is that the pot calling the kettle black? Anyway, I agree with him that we all need to work together to make this economic situation better.
Where is BosqueGal on this topic? Just publishing the "gotcha" headlines and not defending her position on anything...right, wrong, or otherwise!
Readers beware!
the author's grandchildren have been visiting or this author has been traveling all summer.
So lately, no, this author has not shopped locally.
But in general- this author makes a point of buying gas in this town simply because this author would rather pay GRT than higher property tax etc. If everyone did that, maybe the Village Councilors could learn to live in their budget.
Watch for a new posting about this very topic in the future.
