Bosque Farms Government, Who is Representing You?

A blog about Bosque Farms, the politicians that have been elected to office to represent those of us who live here and how their actions might impact the Villagers.

Name: Bosque Gal
Location: Bosque Farms, New Mexico, United States

I'm a concerned resident who realizes the impact that the Bosque Farms local government has on our daily lives. I am working to share this information with others.

An interesting thought

Politics only serve to make the future moron-certain.

Economic Development by Webpage

Let's see. We are listed in the New Mexico Economic Development site.
Yup. There it is. So if you manage to do a search for New Mexico Economic Development and then search there for Bosque Farms or follow the link through Community Assistance to Certified Communities you can then find a link to the Bosque Farms Economic Development Site.

Oh yeah. That helps. Check it out here for yourself.

And while it might help. It seems that Bosque Farms could be doing something more proactive than just these links that are buried in the middle of pages or after following several links.

This author finds it interesting that our webpages link to one place that doesn't link back to us. One example of this would be the Los Lunas Small Business Center.

Again, not a big deal one way or the other. However, it seems that someone would look at these links, look where they are going, ensure we too are listed on their links so that everyone is getting the maximum exposure.

Mostly, this author believes just putting up a webpage and providing a few links to it from other sources (uh, such as our own Village website hint hint) is probably a good start but maybe more can be done?

July Events

How about something fun. Surely this month we can do something fun? This is, afterall the month we have not put on a fireworks show for many years.

What about inviting Deborah Harry to come. This is National Blondie and Deborah Harry month. This author will bet she thinks it's a hoot and come if she can. We can combine that with grilling month, hot dog month, ice cream month, and horseradish month (The latter should make Councilor Wallace happy ha ha) and the ever important National parks and recreation month.

If nothing else, there could be a small parade with a potluck at the community center for National Walk your Houseplant Day.

Fourth of July

What is the plan for fire works on the Fourth of July?

The ordinances on the books, the best this author can find, say that fireworks are legal.

Period.
http://bosquefarms.us/codes.htm

This author read the ordinances and can not find anything that says that if there is an official drought that the village can ban some fireworks. And state law says first: that not all fireworks can be banned, even if there is an official dry spell and second: that the communities need to have the option written into their laws in order to ban fireworks.

Looks like instead of worrying about some of the things they are fussing over, the village Councilors should worry about this ordinance. Once again, they let the deadline for fixing this ordinance slip past. And once again- they will rely on false signs that make it look like fireworks are illegal when they are not.

That is who we have representing us now.

A Positive Past Due

It has been long past time that this author say - wow! The additions to the walk path are very nice. This author particularly likes the new excercize equipment and the benches and the garbage cans. Nice.

Signs

This author went to visit a friend and took a drive past the corner by the Propane store. And wow, isn't that pretty? All along that blue pipe fence there are balloons, posters, signs, etc. It is a wonder the people living in that little area can see to get off of their street and on to the main street.

It seems there was a big fuss a while ago for sign limits. And it seems, signs such as these are only allowed for a short amount of time. They have been up for some time, but let's just see, from today forward- how many days these posters, balloons, and penants are allowed to muck up that corner.

Congrats to the new places

It has taken a few days to notice them. They were a bit hard to see with all the flags and signs and balloons but congrats to the new places that are now where Curves used to be. Good luck to the phone flashers and the new gift shop.

Economic Development

First, the Village has a great web site focused on economic development:
http://bfecondev.bosquefarms.us/

We have been informed here, by "coulrophobic" that there is indeed a website for Bosque Farms Economic Development.

Wonderful. However, this author has been doing a google search routinely and it is not popping up. This author, has every so often, looked at the Village webpage for a link to any information about economic development. Nothing.

How silly. You can find a link to the Albuquerque Economic Development site but not for our own community. Those of us who live here can only shake our heads in awe that something so simple is forgotten. And we wonder why no one is looking at it?

Summer Movies

Did you know?

IF you go to the park across from Albertsons, the one where all the big events are held, and if you go in the little center where they pass out information there, you can get free movie tickets?!

This author has forgotten about this each year and has never pointed this out but it has been going on for several years now. This author only remembered because the grandkids are in town.

You go in on a Tuesday and on Thursday at the local theater you can watch Thursday movies at 10am.

Kind of neat. Thanks to the people who are sponsoring that.

It only takes a websearch

Visit google or some other web search engine. Type in something like June 2009 National Month of and let it come back with a response.

Maybe this Village doesn't want to participate in national wish month. But there are a lot of interesting national days and months that the Village could, for very little effort and money and a few volunteers, work up some fascinating monthly programs.

June includes:
National Drive Safe Month
National Roses Month
Adopt a cat month.
- a perfect day for the library- visit the shelter at the library.
National wellness month

From the 21-27th you can participate in National Mosquito Control Week, National Carpenter ant Week

And somewhere among all that is National Donut Day.
And a special day that deserves recognition and should be celebrated is National Recreation Day for the Disabled.

And a personal favorite "National Fear from Speaking out Week".

So there- fair warning. This is what is coming up and maybe the Village can do some new community event? Make up their own, let's just do something fun and community wide. (with good advertising please).

D Day

It is worth remembering and worthy of respect.

Thank you to the men who fought so hard on that day and all the days of the war.

This link will take you to some videos about Dday.

Promises Kept

You can look at the current Councilors and look at their promises kept and see what they did and didn't do.

Here are a few to cogitate on and ask the Councilors about.
Councilor Wallace promised that businesses and residents alike would have assurity. Remember, the made up word? Check it out here.

They promised to get some homes in here for elderly. Hm.. It seems there was a push to have that happen. But then what? Oh, they didn't carry through on their promises. Where was your economic development person then? Did he help the Beehive homes find a place for their business? Or did he just throw in the towel?

Oh, but Councilor Knowlton did promise to raise rates on water and sewer. And he did it too. Why? His argument was that ours were the lowest in the area. But what he didn't tell you? ours were the highest for many many years.

Spring/Summer Veggies

This author is thrilled there is a farmer market that is closer than Belen or Albuquerque. However, it should have been here, in Bosque Farms that the newest Farmer's Market is held. Here, where we keep lots larger and there is a larger population of gardeners.

Some of the veggies you might see at the local market include radishes, peas, spinach, and swiss chard.

Here, in honor of one of the first angry posters to this blog, is a recipe for a nice, healthy homecooked meal you can serve to your children.

SPRING VEGGIE MEDLY

3/4 lb. (about 30) baby carrots, trimmed and peeled

3/4 lb. (about 24) baby turnips, trimmed, or 1 pound turnips, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces

3/4 lbs. haricots verts (thin green beans), trimmed

3/4 lb. (about 30) baby pattypan squash, trimmed

1/2 stick (1/4 cup) unsalted butter

2 T. minced fresh chives, or to taste

1 T minced Italian Seasoning or to taste

In a steamer set over boiling water steam the carrots and the turnips, covered, for 5 to 7 minutes, or until they are just tender, and transfer them to a large bowl.

In the steamer steam the haricots verts, covered, for 3 to 4 minutes, or until they are just tender, and transfer them to the bowl.

In the steamer steam the squash, covered, for 3 minutes, or until they are just tender, and transfer them to the bowl.

In a large skillet melt the butter over moderate heat, add the vegetables, the chives, and salt and pepper to taste, and cook the vegetables, stirring, until they are combined well and heated through.

Serves 8.

The Rodeo Association

It has been a while since this author has shared this website.
There are very few days when this author doesn't drive by the bank and look at the sign to see what is going on there.

http://www.bosquefarmsrodeo.org/

This author has chosen to post this website as a reminder for June 20. Put it on your date book and buy your ticket if you haven't already. Cowboy Night Out. This is one of their biggest fund raisers and it's a worthwhile cause.

This author is going to go and expect to see many of you there. It will be a fun time.
